Building Human Bonds in the Internet Age:

Rethinking the nature and quality of communication

When we look at recent patterns of communication among young people we can see that, thanks to the Internet and other technological advancements, they can communicate more easily and rapidly with people both inside and outside of their home countries. Young people can often be seen sending messages via their cellular phones to friends sitting right next to them. This is just one example which clearly shows that advancements in technology can unfortunately lead to a decrease in the quality of communication between people. What we are proposing is that we really need to rethink our use of technology for communication as it decreases the quality of that communication. What we need to ask ourselves is what kind of communication can give us the relief from stress and the energy we need to improve our daily lives.
